Introducing StudBase: Stud Dog Management Software Built by a Stud Handler

If you run a stud dog service, you will already know there is a lot more involved than simply turning up for a mating.
There are bookings to organise, customers to keep in touch with, repeat matings to remember, fertility results to record, and paperwork to deal with. If you have several stud dogs, keeping everything organised becomes even more important.
I've been running my own stud service for years, and I know how quickly things can become complicated.
That is one of the reasons I decided to build StudBase, a management app designed specifically for stud dog handlers.
Why I built StudBase
When you're managing a stud service, you often find yourself using several different things just to keep track of your day.
Messages from customers, calendar appointments, notes about fertility testing, details of previous matings and reminders about repeat visits can all end up scattered across different places.
That might work when you have one stud dog and only a handful of bookings, but it becomes much harder as your service grows.
I wanted something that worked around the way stud handlers actually operate, rather than trying to adapt generic booking or business software.
Something that understood a mating might involve more than one appointment, that a girl might return for a repeat mating, and that keeping accurate records matters.
So I started developing StudBase.
Manage your bookings in one place
One of the main features of StudBase is its booking management system.
Rather than treating every appointment as a completely separate booking, StudBase is designed around the mating process itself.
You can organise initial matings, additional visits and follow-up appointments while keeping them connected to the same customer and breeding arrangement.
There are calendar views to help you see what's coming up, and booking statuses to track appointments from provisional arrangements through to completed visits.
For handlers offering a mobile service, having an organised diary is particularly useful when you're trying to plan travel around several customers.
Keep track of your customers and their dogs
Another important part of running a stud service is keeping accurate customer records.
StudBase provides a customer database where you can store contact information, details about their dogs and previous bookings.
Instead of searching through months of messages to remember which girl visited which stud, you can keep the information together.
It's particularly useful when a customer returns for another mating or contacts you about a previous booking.
Record matings, fertility information and outcomes
Timing plays a huge part in successful dog breeding, and every breeder approaches it slightly differently.
Some rely on natural signs and experience, while others use progesterone testing through a veterinary practice or fertility clinic.
StudBase is designed to accommodate different approaches, allowing handlers to record relevant fertility information alongside their bookings.
You can also keep track of mating outcomes, helping you build a clearer picture of your stud dogs' breeding history over time.
Having this information recorded properly is useful both for your own records and when dealing with returning customers.
Manage multiple stud dogs
Not every handler has just one stud dog.
In my own service, I work with several Toy Poodles, each with their own characteristics, health testing information and breeding history.
Keeping those records separate and organised is important, particularly when you're handling enquiries for different dogs throughout the week.
StudBase allows you to maintain individual stud profiles and manage the information associated with each dog.
Whether you have one stud or several, the idea is to make the administration side of running your service easier.
How StudBase and StudMatch work together
StudMatch was created to help breeders find suitable stud dogs and connect directly with their handlers.
StudBase focuses on what happens behind the scenes, helping handlers organise and manage their services.
The two platforms are designed to complement one another.
Rather than having one system for advertising your dogs and another for managing your bookings and records, the aim is to make the process more connected.
StudBase also supports publishing stud profiles to StudMatch, helping handlers manage their dogs and their advertising without having to maintain everything separately.
Built by someone who actually handles stud dogs
This is probably the most important part for me.
StudBase hasn't been designed by someone simply looking at the dog breeding industry from the outside.
It's based on the things I've encountered while running my own stud service.
The last-minute bookings, the repeat matings, the customers who return months later, the fertility testing and the challenge of keeping everything organised when you're out on the road.
I know what I find useful in my own day-to-day work, and that's the thinking behind the app.
Of course, every stud handler works slightly differently, which is why feedback from other handlers is going to be an important part of developing StudBase further.
Try StudBase for yourself
StudBase is available for stud handlers who want a more organised way to manage their services.
Whether you're just starting out with your first stud dog or already running an established service, the aim is to give you the tools to keep your bookings, customers and records together.
You can explore StudBase and get started here:
Try StudBase – Stud Dog Management Software
And if you do give it a try, I'd genuinely welcome your feedback.
After all, the best way to build software for stud handlers is to listen to the people actually using it.
